Concerns have been raised regarding potential illegal activities along Noosa North Shore during the official mullet season from 1 April to 31 August. During this period, complaints are raised each year, including camping on the beach in unauthorised areas and fishing nets near the river mouth. Our office has raised these concerns with both the Department of Fisheries (DAF) and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS), and to date these have been proven to be compliant with regulations and permits. An extra concern raised in 2020, has been those crossing the border from NSW during the COVID-19 border closures. There are exemptions to the border restrictions for those working in some key industries, including commercial fishing, which is permitted. Regardless of divided opinions in relation to commercial fishing, please remember these are legal businesses operating under permits and licenses.

If you have any concerns regarding commercial fishing activities please contact the Department of Fisheries on 13 25 23 or the 24-hour Fishwatch Hotline on 1800 017 116, these will come through to our local officers for investigation. For concerns regarding unauthorised camping at Noosa North Shore or Cooloola Recreation Area or other concerns related to National Parks, please report via www.des.qld.gov.au/contactus or email qpws@des.qld.gov.au
