In response to queries regarding the activation of school pools for community use, we have summarised the process below:

In order for the local community to use a State School pool, there needs to be a suitably qualified operator in place to run the pool as a business outside of school hours and they must comply with regulations relating to the operation of a public pool. Each school principal considers applications and makes all decisions in relation to this, including ensuring that hire fees cover the provision of maintenance and other operational costs related to the extended usage of the pool.

Applications can be made by individuals, community groups, P&C’s, or even local councils should they wish to lease and operate the pool outside school hours.

Further Information

The Department of Education has more information in relation to this on their website at https://ppr.qed.qld.gov.au/pp/community-use-of-state-school-facilities-policy

Anyone interested in leasing a school pool should contact the local principal. Contact details for all schools in Queensland can be found at https://schoolsdirectory.eq.edu.au

Please note, it is a similar process for use of any other school assets, such as classrooms, equipment or sports fields.
