All proposed developments have to go through approval processes prior to the receipt of grant monies or commencement of any works.

A development project such as the Noosa Resort Eco Precinct can meet the criteria for a grant under the Department of Tourism, however part of the criteria for that grant, is that it must still obtain all necessary approvals and permits. Being awarded a grant does not guarantee that the project will proceed, nor that they will receive the grant. You can find an example of the type of contract entered into when receiving such a grant at www.publications.qld.gov.au/ckan-publications-attachments-prod/resources/63192784-9e76-4678-96b3-5db8b918b096/example_-grant-agreement_-visitor-first-experience-fund_template.pdf?ETag=546289e9960b6a004bd6ed98d7416034

RACV have an application underway with Noosa Council for a Material Change of Use (MC22/0118) and you can find all information and supporting documentation, including the communications with SARA (State Government), on Council’s website at https://noo-web.t1cloud.com/T1PRDefault/WebApps/eProperty/P1/eTrack/eTrackApplicationDetails.aspx?r=P1.WEBGUEST&f=$P1.ETR.APPDET.VIW&ApplicationId=MCU22%2f0118

The recent QLD Budget regional papers lists the Noosa Resort Eco Precinct project as $14.3m with $7.1m to be spent in the 2023-24 financial year. QLD Treasury presents this information as total project costs including Federal, State, Local Government and private contributions. The total State Government grant for this project was $200,000 to support the Civil Works and Design Elements.

If you open the ‘Document’ section towards the bottom of the page, you will find everything related to their application. There is a large volume of documents available, however two of particular interest are titled:

  • MCU22/0118 – SRA application correspondence – Referral agency response – with conditions
  • Further Advice Assessment Manager – MCU22/0118 (As published)

The second document is asking the devleopers for further information regarding a number of requirements, including environmental, and also stating that it is unclear how the development can be constructed and operate in accordance with the SARA conditions which are outlined in the first document.

It also appears from the information that the decision period has been extended to 20 July 2023.

This project must have approvals to proceed. For anything further, please contact Noosa Council via mail@noosa.qld.gov.au or details of your elected Councillors can be found at www.noosa.qld.gov.au/about-council/councillors-meetings/mayor-and-councillors
