Following our February update, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has advised that detailed design work for the proposed safety improvements have been completed for Factory Street, with designs for the remainder of the town centre nearing completion.

TMR has stated that this project aims to improve pedestrian safety, slow traffic and help protect Pomona’s village character. Construction will be delivered in two stages, with Stage 1 expected to commence in late 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.

Stage 1 – Factory Street

The first stage of works will include:

  • construction of a new raised pedestrian (wombat) crossing
  • installation of two raised township entry road treatments
  • introduction of a reduced 40 km/h speed limit along Factory Street.

TMR has provided the below map to indicate the locations of the Stage 1 works:

Stage 2 – Pomona town centre

The second stage will include:

  • installation of two raised pedestrian (wombat) crossings, including a new crossing on Memorial Avenue and an upgrade to the existing crossing on Station Street
  • installation of the Reserve Street raised township entry road treatment
  • minor improvements to the existing crossing on Reserve Street.

TMR has provided the below map to indicate the location of the Stage 2 works:

TMR has also advised that the raised road treatments and crossings have been designed with low profiles and longer platforms to allow vehicles, including heavy vehicles, to pass over smoothly while slowing traffic and minimising noise impacts for nearby residents.

We welcome the progression of this project, which responds to longstanding community advocacy and aims to provide safer pedestrian connections while preserving the character of the Pomona township. We will continue to monitor the project and provide updates as further information regarding construction becomes available.
