Following our previous update in June 2025, further information has been provided regarding proposed pedestrian safety upgrades in Pomona.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has advised that a package of works is planned for the Pomona township, building on the announced Factory Street pedestrian crossing. The following statement in italics has been provided.

These upgrades build on and complement the previously announced Factory Street crossing and align with Noosa Shire Council’s Pomona Place Plan.

This project responds to long-standing community concerns about pedestrian safety and related traffic impacts in the township and we acknowledge the advocacy you’ve provided on behalf of your community.

What’s planned:

  • Installing new pedestrian crossings at key locations.
  • Improving some existing pedestrian crossings.
  • Reducing the speed limit in the town centre to 40km/hour.
  • Installing raised township entry treatments to help reinforce the new speed limit.

Construction is anticipated to commence late 2026, subject to final design and approvals.

TMR has also provided a project update flyer, which includes further information and identifies the locations of the proposed works. This project flyer will be distributed to the community and key stakeholders.

The map below shows the approximate location of the raised Factory Street pedestrian crossing, as well as existing crossings under consideration for improvement on Reserve Street and Station Street, and the proposed location of an additional new pedestrian crossing on Memorial Avenue. Locations for the raised township entry treatments are also displayed.

Further updates will be provided as the project progresses, and we will share additional information with the community as it becomes available. Sandy will continue to engage with TMR and Noosa Shire Council to ensure the community is kept informed as the project moves through design and approval stages.

TMR managed roads in the Pomona township area are Reserve St, Factory St & Hill St. Other roads in Pomona township area such as Station St and Summit Rd, are managed by Noosa Council.
