The Department of Transport and Main Roads has provided the following response in relation to traffic delays on Kin Kin Rd:

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) acknowledges that roadworks can cause disruptions and understands there may be a level of fatigue within the Noosa hinterland community related to ongoing works on Kin Kin Road.

Please be assured that TMR has, and will, continue to look into coordinating works between work crews where possible to minimise delays to road users.

However, due to the very high level of community requests and enquiries that TMR continues to receive, TMR is responding by investing heavily in upgrades to Kin Kin Road.

This includes the widening project through the range (Attachment 1), Six Mile Creek bridge replacement works (Attachment 2) and ongoing maintenance to ensure Kin Kin Road remains in a safe and trafficable condition.

TMR’s maintenance contractor is also working hard to repair potholes and other roadway issues prior to bitumen resealing of almost eight kilometres of the road ahead of the upcoming wet season. This will provide a waterproof layer, improve skid resistance, and help extend the life of the road.

TMR seeks to balance the need for carrying out roadworks, while limiting the inconvenience to the local community. While night work would minimise the impact on traffic during school hours, TMR has had to revaluate night works on Kin Kin Road at this time due to noise complaints from nearby residents.

On 18 November 2022, an officer from TMR’s North Coast Region telephoned
Ms Alison Matchett, Principal of Kin Kin State School, to discuss the issues raised by the school community and what action could be taken by TMR to minimise delays.
Ms Matchett was thankful for the telephone call and update.

Every effort is made to keep disruptions to a minimum while the works are underway. TMR understands roadworks can be frustrating for nearby businesses, residents and road users and acknowledges the cooperation and patience of stakeholders during these activities.

TMR encourages all road users to plan their trips in advance, taking into account the current works on Kin Kin Road.
