The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) have advised Stage 1 (between Turnbull Road to just north of Williams Road) has now been completed.

TMR have also advised the following for works between Williams Road and Western Branch Road (Stage 2), and between Sallwood Court and Turnbull Road (Stage 3):

Design investigation work has started, and this will include land surveys, pavement investigations, geotechnical design, drainage design, ecological and cultural heritage assessments, landscaping and constructability assessments. Design is expected to be finalised in mid-2024.

The two sections (Stage 2 and 3) are located to the north and south of a section of the road widened during stage 1. Please refer to the below map.

Design investigations completed to date have identified a partial impact on the frontage of 21 properties on Kin Kin Rd.  The TMR project team are meeting initially with adjacent property owners between 21 August and 1 September 2023 to discuss impacts and give advance notification of any potential land requirements. As the design progresses and more is known about any specific land needs, TMR will meet further with those potentially impacted at their properties.

This process will provide property owners with the information they need to consider options and seek further advice, both from TMR and independently. It is important to note that TMR is currently still in the design phase and working to minimise impacts on property owners through this process.

Collectively, these works are to provide greater safety to our residents and road users, and to minimise the need for continued maintenance and short-term fixes that continue to cause impacts to many.

TMR have also advised other safety measures have included:

  • increased monitoring and inspections
  • drainage improvement works and pavement repairs.
  • speed limit reductions on sections of Kin Kin Road.
  • vegetation management to improve visibility, reinstate the clear zone in areas and increase the firebreak within the road corridor.

Should anyone that has been contacted regarding their property require any further information, please contact TMR’s project team on 5451 7055 or via northcoast@tmr.qld.gov.au. Once this process is fully complete should any property owner confirmed as being impacted have concerns, please contact our office via noosa@parliament.qld.gov.au.

Further information

Please Note – All advice provided to date is that TMR do not have the ability to stop heavy haulage vehicles, however they do have a duty of care to keep the roads in a safe condition. Information regarding this has been posted over the years on our website at www.sandybolton.com/?s=kin+kin, including further information on this specific project. Information from Noosa Council regarding the quarry permit and their court case with quarry operators is available at www.noosa.qld.gov.au/kin-kin-quarry.
