Healthy Harold and the Life Education Queensland will continue to visit schools across Queensland, thanks to a funding boost from the State Government. Life Education Queensland is the largest non-government provider of health education to children and young people in Queensland. More than 200,000 Queensland students from 500 schools benefited from the program last year.

Life Education Queensland targets schools in rural, remote and disadvantaged locations, who often face some of the greatest health challenges. Over the past six years, with the support of the State Government, Life Education’s delivery of health education to children has doubled, from 107,000 children per year to more than 200,000.

The Life Education Program is one of seven Health and Wellbeing initiatives receiving further funding from the State Government. The other six are:

• National Heart Foundation of Australia (Qld Division) – Heart Foundation Walking Program
• Queensland Association of School Tuckshops – Healthy Tuckshop Support Program
• The Queensland Country Women’s Association – Country Kitchens Program
• The Good Foundation – Jamie’s Ministry of Food Program
• Central Queensland University – 10,000 Steps Program
• Alcohol and Drug Foundation – Queensland Good Sports Healthy Eating Program

This is fantastic news, Sandy. Thank you so much for your support of Life Ed and the other health initiatives. Life Ed has secured funding from State Gov for the next 3 years which takes so much pressure off – we can safely deliver the program without the stress of fundraising. Whilst the funding goes to Life Ed Qld they provide funding to the Cooloola-Noosa Life Ed committee so we can continue to visit schools from north of Gympie to Yandina, from Noosa to North Arm. The funding covers the wages for our amazing educator Niki. Thank you!

Hello Sandy, I’m not sure where to pop this post but perhaps under the Education post might be best. We had some communications earlier in the Year about the involvement of Religious Instruction being taught in our Public Schools. During the course of this communications, you mentioned that you were thinking about putting together a Consultation Group around that, I just wanted to touch base and see if this is in your pipeline? Thanks for all you do for our Community, Helen.

Good afternoon Helen, thanks for your comments. Generally comments such as this could go under # Your posts and general chat channel. There is much work being done currently on Education issues by Sandy, however I will check regarding a consultation group and respond asap. Lisa
