Following advocacy from many in our community and Sandy, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will complete pavement repairs on 14 December, between 6pm and 6am, for the railway overpass on Elm Street.  These will address the current condition of the road surface on the eastbound and westbound approaches.

Expected Impacts include:

  • Motorists may experience minor delays during these works which involve single lane and shoulder closures, traffic controllers, reduced speed limits, and signage.
  • Nearby residents may experience noise, light, vibrations, and possible dust from construction activities.
  • TMR’s contractor will endeavour to minimise these impacts as much as possible.
  • Priority access and entry through the work zone will be given to emergency vehicles.

Furthermore, in a response to our office in September 2023, TMR advised the following in relation to structural integrity of the overpass:

TMR advises the state-controlled road network, including Elm Street (formally known as Cooroy Connection Road), is regularly monitored to identify and carry out maintenance works and other minor safety improvements to provide a safe environment for all road users.

TMR undertakes a program of cyclic inspections on structures to monitor their condition.

A recent engineering review of the structure was completed which concluded that based on the current loading and network demands, the bridge is considered serviceable and is to be monitored and maintained accordingly.

Sandy would like to thank everyone including TMR and is continuing efforts to see the intersections remedied as well.
