Boating Infrastructure

We have continued efforts for improved boating infrastructure for the Noosa Shire including for funding to be provided for boat ramps as identified in the Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) Recreational Boating Facilities Demand Forecasting Study 2022 and by Noosa Council.

The 2025-26 State Budget was handed down on 24 June 2025 and the accompanying Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP) confirmed planning is underway, with construction set to begin in 2027-28, to deliver this. Sandy welcomes the progress, as we have had ongoing productive conversations with the Minister for Transport and Main Roads regarding the $2.5 million commitment by the government and look forward to updates on how and where these funds will be spent.

Priorities for boating investment were noted in a Noosa Council General Committee Meeting on 12 May 2025, though these would be subject to further council deliberation and their discussions with MSQ. Meetings are occurring between MSQ and Noosa Council and reported has been verbal support for assisting with ‘on shore’ infrastructure with this funding, which is positive news.

We will continue to monitor progress and follow up with the minister, MSQ and Noosa Council. Sandy thanks everyone involved in advocating for improved facilities for our community as we have much to do in progressing many priorities including the Tewantin Bypass.

Noosa River Navigational Aids

Recently following long term advocacy from Sandy and others, MSQ has also installed trial navigational lights on the port and starboard buoys and beacons on the Noosa River, marking the navigation corridor from Woods Bay to the Noosa cable ferry. As Sandy said in a media release on 25 June 2025, this will assist in making night-time boating safer on our waterway, however, please remember to do your bit and ensure your vessel displays the correct navigation lights, whether underway or at anchor. Gratitude to the MSQ team.
