Following our February 2025 update regarding management planning for Tuchekoi National Park and Tewantin National Park, we followed up with the Minister for the Environment seeking an update on progress toward a full review and joint management planning.

The minister has provided the below advice, which outlines that completion of the management reviews is not expected before the 2027–28 financial year:

The Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (the department) has advised that the management instrument reviews for Tuchekoi and Tewantin National Parks are on the department’s forward plan, however, completion of such a review is not anticipated before the 2027–28 financial year.

As highlighted in previous correspondence, the department has internal procedures to remain abreast of contemporary park values and threats to all protected areas, including Tuchekoi and Tewantin National Parks. Departmental officers remain available to discuss any concerns or perspectives that community groups may have about specific park management issues to ensure emerging matters are considered in day-to-day operational activities.

We appreciate the minister’s response and note the department’s advice that officers remain available to discuss specific management matters. Where constituents or community groups raise concerns regarding park management, we will continue to liaise with departmental staff to ensure emerging issues are considered.

Further updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
