The following update (in italics) has been provided by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) regarding the construction of the Six Mile Creek Bridge replacement project:

Upcoming Works:

  • placement of bridge girders
  • installation of steel bridge traffic barrier
  • installation of pavement layers
  • continuation of drainage works
  • road alignment on sections of Kin Kin Road on approach to the bridge
  • continuation of construction for dedicated turn lanes into Bellbird Flat Road.

Expected impacts:

  • Traffic delays of up to 10mins can be expected during bridge girder installation commencing Tuesday 16 May for up to one week between 4.30am and 6pm
  • This will not impact peak school travel times. Additional traffic controllers will be onsite to minimise delays
  • TMR drones will be operating during installation of bridge girders
  • traffic controllers or automated traffic signals, reduced speed limits, road signage and variable message signs remain in place to advise of the changed traffic conditions and to ensure motorist and roadworker safety
  • priority access through the work site will be given to emergency vehicles
  • we expect higher truck movements as these works continue. TMR will strive to balance impacts to the community and motorists using the road network during these busier times. TMR is also engaging with key stakeholders who utilise Kin Kin Road to coordinate the delivery of construction materials
  • once bridge girder installation is complete, majority of works will be undertaken during the day from Monday to Saturday between 7am and 5pm

The approved species management plan will continue to be implemented to manage and mitigate any impacts to flora and fauna species through construction. Every effort will be made to keep disruptions and noise to a minimum while the works are underway. TMR understands roadworks can be frustrating for nearby businesses, residents and road users and acknowledges the cooperation and patience of stakeholders during these activities. TMR will continue to provide updates to residents and stakeholders as construction progresses.
