After the 2024 State Election and an election commitment by the new government to establish a Save Night Precinct (SNP) in Noosa, Sandy requested local stakeholders be consulted as from our understanding this had not been applied for, nor supported.

As mentioned in our January 2025 Noosa 360 update, following this, the Attorney General advised the Griffith University would be undertaking an independent review of Queensland Safe Night Precincts, which included engagement with our office and other key Noosa stakeholders such as  the Hastings Street Association, police and Noosa Council. Our office contacted those stakeholders after their engagement with the review and were advised they were still not in support of an SNP in its current form, which does not provide the needed dedicated funding for police to undertake special operations. Noosa Council and the Hastings Street Association have had to fund these during times where alcohol fuelled violence has been identified.

Taking this into account, and that residents raised concerns when the 2025/26 State Budget included funding for a Noosa SNP, we requested the government advise the outcome of this consultation which has been received below in italics from the Attorney General. In summary, the final SNP review report is expected in September 2025.

I note Griffith University invited your office and a number of the Noosa stakeholders to participate in the inaugural triennial review of Queensland Safe Night Precincts (SNP review). I am pleased to advise I am expecting the final SNP review report to be delivered to Government in September 2025.

The Queensland Government is committed to improving community safety, including minimising harm from alcohol-fuelled violence through considered and impactful initiatives. It is therefore critical the Government makes a decision on an SNP in Noosa with all available and essential information to ensure the outcome is fit for purpose, meets community expectations, and achieves the necessary objectives.

The above response indicates that following the review, the SNPs may be overhauled into a program that local stakeholders could support. Sandy will continue to monitor and provide updates as more information becomes available.
