As mentioned in our previous Noosa 360 updates, an application has been made under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (the Act), for a determination by the Federal Minister for Environment as to whether further vegetation clearing at the Kin Kin Quarry will be classed as a Controlled Action requiring further assessment under the Act. The application can be viewed here.
With Senator the Hon. Murray Watt being appointed as the new Federal Minister for the Environment on 13 May 2025, Sandy wrote to him on 9 June 2025 with a copy of our submission lodged in September 2023.
We have also made contact again with the Queensland Minister for Environment requesting any and all assistance be provided in advocating to the federal minister or via other avenues to ensure the Noosa Hinterland’s residents’ expectations are met to avoid adding to an already impactful and traumatic situation for our community and environment, which approving this additional clearing and the resulting environmental impacts will only exacerbate.
We encourage all to email the federal minister via minister.watt@dcceew.gov.au with your views and copy our federal MP Llew O’Brien in via llew.obrien.mp@aph.gov.au as soon as possible.
