In response to community concerns raised regarding Noosa Shire Council (NSC) not being able to apply local laws on the current Transport and Main Roads (TMR) owned lot at the corner of Goodchap Street and Noosa–Eumundi, we sought a resolution in early 2024. In summary, it is in the process of being transferred to the responsibility of Noosa Shire Council (NSC) to rectify this.

History

The central issues residents reported was that cars and boats were being abandoned there, and the potential green space was not being managed appropriately and safely. Due to TMR’s ownership of the site, NSC does not currently have the authority to apply local laws requested by the community, including around parking, or do associated compliance operations.

In March 2024, TMR met with NSC to discuss potential options for the use of the land including possible transfer to NSC as council road reserve.

After further discussions between state and local government and our advocacy regarding resident concerns, a decision was made in January 2025 that it would be transferred to NSC management..

The Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development (NRMMRRD) are currently progressing this process.

Sandy has continued to follow up with TMR and NSC as this process has been slow, with the latter recently advising they anticipate an outcome within the next two to three months as of writing.

We have requested a progress update from NRMMRRD including that this be finalised as soon as possible so community expectations can be addressed. Sandy will report on once a response is received.
