During our 2025 Noosa MP Community Survey, some residents raised the need for road widening on Cooroy-Noosa Road to create a dedicated lane for cyclists and improve safety for both drivers and cyclists. Following our enquiries, Transport and Main Roads provided the below response in italics. It outlines that the road is eligible for potential investment from the cycling program within the next ten years however currently the funding has not been allocated.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) prioritises the safety and accessibility of Queensland’s road network for all users, including people riding bikes. Cooroy–Noosa Road is part of the Principal Cycle Network (PCN), which underscores our strategic planning for connected and safe cycling infrastructure.

The long-term planning for Cooroy–Noosa Road includes provisions for bike riders in the form of wide shoulders. This will be confirmed during future detailed planning. This approach aligns with the overarching goals of the Queensland Cycling Strategy 2017–2027, which is aimed at fostering a safer and more comprehensive cycling network across the state.

While Cooroy–Noosa Road is eligible for potential investment from the cycling program within the next 10 years, currently, there is no Queensland Government funding allocated for detailed planning, design or construction of cycling infrastructure along this road.

Priorities and funding needs are reviewed and re-evaluated regularly to ensure that as many positive road outcomes as possible are obtained within a finite budget and community feedback forms a valuable part of this process. TMR will continue to work closely with Noosa Shire Council (NSC) for future development of the PCN.

We will continue efforts to ensure safety on our state roads including for the needed investment to be allocated as soon as possible. To inform our advocacy, Noosa electorate residents can email our office via noosa@parliament.qld.gov.au.
