Sandy’s advocacy has continued, alongside the Nicklin MP, to see resident concerns regarding the state controlled Cooroy intersections and overpass addressed. As the recent pavement works did not meet community expectations, we provided feedback to the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), per our January 2024 Noosa 360 update.

In response, TMR have provided the following to our office:

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) would like to advise the design is complete for resurfacing works on 1.3 kilometres of Cooroy Connection Road (locally known as Myall Street) in Cooroy.

The project includes resurfacing works from just south of Ferrells Road to just east of the railway overpass near the Myall and Elm Street intersection, per the map below. It includes resurfacing works on the bridge deck at the railway overpass and on both approaches to the bridge. Pavement rehabilitation works will also be completed at the Myall and Elm Street intersection.

Cooroy Connection Road provides an important link to the Bruce Highway for the hinterland town of Cooroy, as well as other communities towards the coast, with 9800 motorists, tourists and bike riders travelling this road daily.

The project will improve the road surface, resulting in a smoother, safer journey for all road users. It will also extend the pavement life and reduce the costs associated with regular road maintenance.

TMR recently undertook minor repair works on the approaches to the Cooroy railway overpass on Cooroy Connection Road, as well as on the bridge deck, as a temporary solution while preparations for these resurfacing works were finalised. TMR would like to thank the Cooroy community, and those who use this road regularly, for your patience while we completed these vital preparations.

Tenders for the construction works will soon be called, with construction expected to commence in mid-2024, weather and construction scheduling permitting.

TMR will continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses. The project is part of a package of works that also includes resurfacing works on approximately 8.7 kilometres of the southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway, from south of the Kiels Mountain Road overpass to just north of the Parklands interchange.

Thank you to TMR for committing to these vital works and to fellow residents for their patience. Sandy will continue to advocate for TMR to reengage with the community on future upgrade options for the Myall and Elm Street as well the Elm and Diamond St intersections, which are in the Nicklin Electorate.
