Following previous information shared in our December 2021 Noosa 360 update, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is currently leading a wide-ranging review into drug driving in Queensland.

A key element of the review is to gain a better understanding of the impact of the drug driving laws have on people who take cannabis, including medicinal cannabis. As part of the review, a Cannabis and driving in Queensland consultation paper  has been released.

The consultation paper has been designed to:

  • Outline Queensland’s current approach to cannabis and driving
  • Identify some of the key challenges that need to be considered
  • Explore approaches taken in other jurisdictions

Responses from the consultation process will be analysed by the Motor Accident Insurance Commission/University of the Sunshine Coast Road Safety Research Collaboration and will inform TMR’s review of Queensland’s cannabis driving laws.

For more information on this review and how to send feedback before the submission period closes on 17th December, please visit www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au/gi/consultation/11053/view.html

Until this review has been completed and any changes to current laws have been made, more information on current laws can be found at https://streetsmarts.initiatives.qld.gov.au/drug-driving/get-the-facts
