𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐏𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐌𝐏𝐬 👩⚖️was just one aspect raised during the ‘Life after Parliament’ forum hosted by the Queensland Former Parliamentary Members' Association and the Australasian Study of Parliament Group - Queensland Chapter. The reality? There is an estimated 30% of ex-MPs are impacted by mental health issues 🫂, are on Jobseeker or a pension🧾 as considered unemployable after being in politics. Since 2004, there is no parliamentary pension yet there is still the belief that there are ‘fat payouts’ and that parliamentarians are wealthy, which in the vast majority is incorrect ❌. Thank you to the excellent speakers QLD Mental Health Commissioner Ivan, former MP’s Jo-Ann Miller and Andrea Coote. The insights were invaluable including the importance of ‘transitioning’ with helpful tips in harnessing the skills and knowledge of ex Parliamentarians in our communities! 🙏🙏![]()

𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐁𝐔𝐃𝐆𝐄𝐓 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓/𝟐𝟔 💰 A budget of good news, missing pieces and many Qs! 🙋♀️ Nearly half a billion for the Lake Macdonald upgrade💧 $950,000 for the Pomona Pedestrian Crossing 🚸 and the $2.5m Noosa River boating infrastructure 🚤 as examples of the ‘good’. QTRIP has $8.5m to fast-track the remaining stages of the Tewantin Bypass, however, with construction not until 2028/29 that is not a fast track! Nor was there a mention of the $30m towards construction 🤔 hence, I have requested a meeting with Noosa Council and TMR to understand why. The lack of construction funding for the Sunshine Beach State High School Advanced Manufacturing Hub 🧑🏭is disappointing as we have students missing out on essential certifications, and no increases for nurse cost contributions for Katie Rose Hospice 😠 Qs surround funding for a new Sunshine Coast Waterways Authority, as this has never been raised as something Noosa sought, or the Safe Night Precinct which from my understanding was not applied for either? ![]()

𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐘 𝟐𝟒𝐓𝐇 𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐓𝐇𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐊𝐘𝐍’𝐒 🎉 👨👩👧👦 Joining the awesome Tewantin Visitor lnformation Centre Parkyn's Hut vollies on the Noosa Queen Sunset Cruise was beautiful, including to do a ‘belated’ congratulations to QLD Day awardee Bruce Cuttle! 🏅 As always, John’s mug awards are a hoot, highlighting how keeping our heritage alive, and providing info to our residents and visitors on what to see and do, is just one part of what they do! 🩷 Congratulations to Wendy, Richard, Pam, Maz, Bruce and Paul, and thank you to Gail and the whole ‘Hut’ team for the passion and love you have for our community and all within! To Dan, you are gold and how we all appreciate your donated time and much-loved ferry for these celebrations, made extra special by raising our glasses to Kenny G, who was much loved and sadly laid to rest at the same time.🙏![]()

𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐁𝐀𝐍𝐄 𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝟐𝟎𝟔𝟎 🚢 This comprehensive roadmap , which is much more than ships and cargo, was a lot to take in during a Parliament lunch break 🤓 It is about Queensland’s economic position and future proof trade, with plans that incorporate greater road and rail links 🚄 the development of a ‘green’ supply chain with renewable integration and environmental stewardship🌲It is also about needs of our State, with an astonishing 1.6 million containers annually passing through the port currently, with an estimated 5 million by 2060. With this port a vital link in the chain, and the enormity of what must be done to manage those numbers, 2060 suddenly does not appear that far off! 😲![]()

🐨KIN KIN QUARRY EPBC APPLICATION– We wrote to the new Federal Minister for Environment on 9 June, regarding an application to clear koala habitat, and have provided them with the copy of our previous submission, to communicate concerns and expectations.![]()

🚌SEATBELTS ON SCHOOL BUSES UPDATE – Re school bus route 5838 and the new replacement bus not having seatbelts installed, we wrote to the Minister for Transport and Main Roads to request that assistance be provided to assist CDC Buses in allocating a bus with seatbelts for the route as this is not acceptable.![]()

🏡SHORT TERM ACCOMMODATION (STA) – we have requested an update on UQ’s recommendations, mandatory data sharing, consultation with local government as well the need for a funding stream to be implemented to support existing council STRA management schemes. ![]()

🚶PEREGIAN PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLE PATH – Sunshine Coast Council has been successful in their application to build a shared pedestrian and cycle path to connect Peregian Breeze estate to Peregian Beach and Coolum, receiving $2.3m for construction! 𝐓𝐄𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐍 𝐁𝐘𝐏𝐀𝐒𝐒🛣️Even with the $8.5m from the previous government to fast-track design of the remaining stages, and the new government’s commitment to also fast track, that we have a construction commencement date in QTRIP of 2028/29 makes no sense 🤔, nor the lack of mention of the $30m construction election commitment. Hence I have requested a meeting with TMR and Noosa Council to understand why after Stage One was completed in 2022, that the next stages have taken so long to plan and design 📜. We appreciate the commitment to commence, and thank Minister Brent’s efforts, however 3 years away to start is not fast tracking as committed to!![]()
