As mentioned in our Noosa 360 update earlier this month, we requested information from the Minister for Disabilities on when progress reporting will begin on the state-based recommendations from the Disability Royal Commission. We have now been provided the following in italics, which outlines the Biannual Report will be endorsed by the end of August 2025.
The reporting process for the first Disability Royal Commission Biannual Report is well underway. At the Disability Reform Ministerial Council (DRMC) meeting on 6 June, Minister Camm and her counterparts from the Commonwealth, and other states, and territories agreed to endorse the report out of session by the end of August 2025 (Communique 6 June 2025 | Department of Social Services). The Biannual Report will include updates on all recommendations, including those directed:
- jointly to the Commonwealth, states and territories
- to states and territories only (including Queensland)
- to the Commonwealth Government.
Implementation planning continues to progress and remains guided by the outcomes of stakeholder engagement under the Queensland Disability Stakeholder Engagement and Co-design (SEC) Strategy, led by Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN). Under the SEC Strategy to date, two rounds of community forums have been held in February 2025 and May/June 2025. The forums reinforced the Queensland Government’s commitment to partnering with people with disability, their families, and sector stakeholders to establish priorities for disability reform in Queensland.
Sandy will continue to monitor this and will follow up in August 2025. To inform our ongoing advocacy on this, we would appreciate any feedback on the above information from Noosa electorate residents via noosa@parliament.qld.gov.au. Please note, we only have jurisdiction with matters in the control of the Queensland Government. Regarding recommendations relating to the Australian Government, you may wish to contact your federal MP.
