We have received the following advice today from the Department for Transport and main Roads regarding the the cost estimate for the Beckmans Road and Cooroy-Noosa Road intersection upgrade. We will continue to advocate for further funding to complete the project during the 2020 Budget Estimates.

In December 2019 the Department of Transport and Main Roads completed concept planning for an upgrade to deliver a roundabout at the Beckmans Road and Cooroy-Noosa Road intersection. This will improve safety and efficiency on the road network and it is intended as the first stage of delivering the Tewantin bypass. Funding has been allocated to complete the detailed design for this intersection upgrade project, which is expected to commence in mid-2020.

Part of the concept planning included the preparation of a conservative total project cost estimate to guide potential future funding requirements for the delivery of this upgrade.

The $12 million estimate includes an allowance for all construction activities, and everything involved with delivering this project such as the detailed design, project management, environmental works, traffic management, public utility relocations, earthworks, drainage, pavement works, road surfacing, signage and linemarking.

At this stage, the estimate also includes a contingency or risk allowance to ensure that currently unidentified issues can be addressed in the detailed design and construction phases without the need to increase state funding requirements. The contingency may be reduced as more comprehensive investigations are undertaken as part of the detailed design process and project risks are evaluated and either reduced or eliminated.

There is currently no funding allocated for construction of the upgrade to the Beckmans Road and Cooroy-Noosa Road intersection. It will be considered as part of future reviews of the Queensland Transport Road Investment Program.
