NOOSA MP COMMUNITY SURVEY RESULTS 2023/2024

Thank you to all Noosans who had their say regarding priorities for ongoing advocacy going forward this year.

A total of 333 responses were recorded for the 2023/24 Noosa MP survey, with 30 responses invalid for the purpose of this survey, as they were from residents of other State Electorates. A decrease to last year’s participation indicates either a level of ‘complacency’ or alternatively ‘survey fatigue’, and we are investigating how either can be addressed!

The following is a summary of the feedback provided including in the ‘additional comments’ by those who selected ‘other’ on a variety of the survey questions.

There were some majority votes including amending legislation to ensure nature conservation is the priority above all others in managing our National Parks (74.78%) and capping Brisbane 2032 Olympic spending at present levels (73.91%). In addition, ensuring all Olympics athlete accommodation is transferred to community housing providers at Games completion (81.30%) and banning political parties and MPs from sending Application for Postal Votes with PO Box Reply Paid Envelopes that go to their office first rather than direct to the Electoral Commission Queensland (84.78%).

Trends also continued from the last annual survey with the majority of respondents against raising the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 14 years old and government agencies using roundup or glyphosate for weed control.

There were also items mentioned in comments that we have up to date information available for on Noosa 360. These include the Cooloola Great Walk, decommissioned Tewantin Tafe site, electric bikes, Beckmans Rd, protections for wildlife on our roads, pedestrian crossing for Factory St, Teewah Beach, the Olympics and Noosa Hospital.  Noosa 360 is the information hub on our website, where we continually post new updates regarding many local matters and advocacy underway, and you can use the handy search bar for your topic of interest at www.sandybolton.com/noosa360

An interesting point raised was the need for residents to be kept up to date more. We aim to do this via regular media columns and articles, our monthly newsletters, Noosa 360, social media posts and annual mailouts. If you have not already subscribed to our newsletter, you can do so at www.sandybolton.com/newsletters, or join us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/SandyBoltonNoosa.  Please feel free to send any suggestions for improved communications to noosa@parliament.qld.gov.au as this is very important.

There was an increase to 72.61% in support for alternative shark control with many comments on shark net removal. As previously reported, we will be progressing a dedicated survey on this in March with updates available at www.sandybolton.com/?s=Shark+net

Concerns were also raised on the South- east Queensland Regional Plan as well as a call for increased rail services. Sandy shares these concerns and our most recent update covering these can be found at www.sandybolton.com/southeast-queensland-regional-plan-update-december-2023.

Some items included in comments were on state matters outside the Noosa Electorate including the Cooroy intersections and overpass, as well feedback on the Bruce Highway. Our efforts regarding issues facing Cooroy are ongoing with further at www.sandybolton.com/?s=Cooroy+intersections and we have provided the comments regarding the Bruce Highway to the Minister for Transport and Main Roads.

Issues raised that haven’t been covered before, have been communicated to the relevant Queensland Ministers and we await responses. These include future plans for our power supply and increasing wages for apprentices among others. Once received we will post information to Noosa 360. If you would like to follow up specifically regarding a comment you contributed, please email us via noosa@parliament.qld.gov.au.

Questions were again asked regarding how policing works in the Noosa Electorate, which were answered in our update in July 2023 at www.sandybolton.com/policing-in-noosa-july-2023

Feedback provided on matters under the control of Local or Federal Governments have been forwarded without any identifying information to Noosa Council and Federal MP Llew O’Brien.
